About the Legal and Regulatory Operations Role
Our team is looking for a Legal and Regulatory Operations team member with experience as a project manager for legal teams. You are not a lawyer, but you will be part of the team that works to ensure that Paystack’s products and business operations comply with laws, ethics, and best practices in legal, compliance, and regulatory matters. Your job will be to support our team of in-house counsel by creating efficient processes for executing key projects, maintaining legal files, documenting and escalating all legal requests, running official errands, and doing research when needed.
The successful candidate must be able to work with a wide range of teams, including fraud/disputes, human resources, finance, sales, products, engineers, and customer support, and provide pragmatic advice and guidance to build sustainable growth. The role will report to the Legal and Regulatory Lead. It is strongly preferred if the candidate is based in Lagos, Nigeria, but it is not required.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll:
- Document all internal and external legal requests and channel to the appropriate team member.
- Maintain a repository of Paystack’s online agreements, written templates, and regulatory correspondences.
- Handle incoming communications and be able to prioritize as well as respond appropriately on behalf of the counsel.
- Respond to requests for information and documents from our internal and external auditors, regulators, partners, and other stakeholders.
- Work closely with other members of the team to fulfill our compliance and corporate governance requirements for a growing footprint of international and domestic subsidiaries.
- Assist in the preparation of draft board and committee meeting minutes, resolutions, and agendas.
- Identify areas to improve our existing processes with technology.
- Lead or participate in projects to improve internal processes.
- Assist with special projects as needed, with the ability to work in an ever-changing environment.
What it takes to succeed at this role:
- A bachelor’s degree.
- 3+ years’ experience in a similar role.
- Strong communication (both written and verbal) skills.
- Strong project management skills, with attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through and meet deadlines.
- Action and results-oriented, with the ability to demonstrate good judgment in a fast-paced, high-growth, dynamic environment.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations.
- An open and curious mind about an evolving industry, humility, and a terrific sense of humor.
- Ability to deal effectively with a variety of individuals at all organizational levels.
- A positive attitude, collaborative mindset, and a desire to be part of a strong, supportive team.
