The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Section on Public Interest and Development Law (SPIDEL) has officially opened nominations for its 2025–2027 Executive Committee elections, inviting eligible members to contest vacant positions.

The positions available include:

  • Chairman (minimum two years prior Exco experience)
  • Vice Chairman (minimum two years prior Exco experience)
  • Secretary (minimum two years prior Exco experience)
  • Financial Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Assistant Secretary
  • Publicity Secretary
  • Four elected members of the Executive Committee

Election Guidelines
The elections will be conducted in line with Articles XII to XIV of the NBA Uniform Bye-Laws for Sections, with specific procedures set for nominations, scrutiny, and voting. Notably:

  • Nominations open on Wednesday, 22nd October 2025.
  • Nominees must submit completed forms with supporting documentation, including Call to Bar certificates, SPIDEL dues, Branch dues, and BPF receipts, via email (nbaspidelelec­tions@gmail.com) or WhatsApp (08035251394 / 08038695936) by 5:00 PM on Tuesday, 4th November 2025.
  • Disqualified candidates will be notified by Friday, 7th November 2025, with an appeal window until 12:00 PM on Monday, 10th November 2025.
  • A preliminary list of qualified candidates and eligible voters will be published by Monday, 17th November 2025, with the final voters’ list released on Thursday, 20th November 2025.
  • Campaigns for positions will run from Friday, 21st November to Wednesday, 3rd December 2025.

Election Day
Voting will take place on Thursday, 4th December 2025, at the Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Voting will be conducted via ballot papers for members present.

Eligibility

  • Only SPIDEL members in good financial standing are eligible to contest or vote.
  • For Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Secretary, candidates must have served at least two years in the SPIDEL Executive Committee.
  • Nominees must be validly proposed in writing by two eligible SPIDEL members.

Nomination forms require personal, professional, and financial details of both the nominee and the two nominators, including Call to Bar information, NBA branch affiliation, and proof of payment of SPIDEL and branch dues for 2024 and 2025. Nominees must also declare their willingness to serve and consent to the publication of their information by the Electoral Committee.

The SPIDEL 2025 Electoral Sub-Committee, chaired by Kunle Edun SAN, has emphasized that all participants familiarize themselves with the election guidelines and the abridged election timeline approved by the NBA National Executive Committee (NEC).

The Sub-Committee includes key members such as Issa Aliyu Nassarwa (Co-Chairman), Esther Ifeoma Jimoh (Secretary), and Austin J. Otah, among others.
