A candidate for the office of General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, Afam O. Okeke, Esq., has proposed the introduction of a real-time tracking system for NBA Stamp and Seal applications.

Okeke, a former Chairman of the NBA Abuja Branch, made the proposal in the second edition of his Accessible Secretariat Series, where he said lawyers should no longer be left in uncertainty after submitting seal applications and making payments.

According to him, one of the most common frustrations lawyers face is the inability to know the exact status of their NBA Stamp and Seal applications after submission.

He said an accessible NBA Secretariat must eliminate such uncertainty by deploying technology to make the process more transparent, efficient and accountable.

“As General Secretary, I will liaise with the President and other National Officers for the introduction of a Seal Application Tracking System on the NBA Seal Portal, allowing lawyers to monitor the progress of their applications from submission to delivery,” Okeke said.

He argued that just as individuals can track bank transactions, courier deliveries and visa applications, lawyers should also be able to track their NBA Seal applications in real time.

Okeke said the proposed tracking system would enable applicants to confirm that their applications have been received, monitor the stage of processing, receive status updates and notifications, track dispatch and delivery information, and know immediately if any action is required from them.

He noted that the proposal was not merely about convenience, but about improving transparency, efficiency and accountability in the Secretariat’s service delivery.

“An Accessible Secretariat should not leave lawyers guessing. It should keep them informed,” he said.

Okeke added that technology should simplify lawyers’ interactions with the NBA, reduce repeated enquiries and improve the overall experience of members.

According to him, small improvements in administrative processes can make a major difference in the confidence lawyers have in the Association.

“A lawyer should be able to log in, click a button, and know exactly where their application stands,” he said.

He maintained that practical innovations of this nature would strengthen confidence in the NBA and improve service delivery for all members.

Okeke is contesting for the office of General Secretary of the NBA under the campaign theme “Accessible Secretariat” and the slogan “The Time Is Now; Ready To Serve.”
