*Accuses DSP Charles Nwatu Of Working With The Suspects
*Says Solomon Gotan Refused To Grant Bail Under The Directives Of DIG
“Lawrence Arinze Is Using The Influence Of Retired DIG To Harass The Vigilante Operatives

A former Chairman of the NBA Anaocha branch and NBA NEC Representative, Jideofor Okongwu Esq,  has alleged threat to his life by some alleged cultists from Enugwu Village Adazi Enu, in Anambra state.

Okongwu is also the Chairman of Enugwu Village Adazi Enu, in Anaocha Local Government Area.

This allegation was disclosed in a petition by the Law Firm of Igu, Obuka & Associates,  to the State Commissioner of Police dated 24/8/2021, signed by D,C Ononiba Esq, and titled: “Petition against some group of cultist led by a notorious cultists Ikenna Ezeume, Ifechukwu Ufoegbunam, Arinze Onunkwo, Arinze Ejindu & Others assaulted, robbed our client of two wireless  microphones, in possession of  a pistol and daggers and subsequently held our client hostage  for over three hours and thereafter threatened the life of our client.”

In the petition sighted by TheNigerialawyer, Okongwu stated that the Traditional Ruler of Adazi-Enu, HRH Igwe Alphonsus Okpalaechelu on the 21st of August after performing the Iwaji ceremony asked all the Chairmen of the 6 villages to go perform the ceremony in their various villages.

He added that the next day, the 22nd, being when they agreed to mark their ireji ceremony, he was on ground to supervise the activities in preparation to the arrival of the guests when Ikenna Ezeume stormed the venue with three vehicles, Toyota Highlander with Registration number AWK914JX, Toyota Corolla driven by Ufoegbunam and shuttle Bus with Unizik Bus Service Inscription driven by Ejindu, in company of some group of boys.

“The above mentioned persons approached our client and ordered him to immediately vacate the venue or  else they will deal with him and our client was trying to find out what was happening, Ikenna Ezeume, who was armed with Jack knife while and another person that I do not know, was armed with a small pistol forcefully collected the two wireless microphones in possession of our client and the said microphones was purchase by our client for the sum of N30, 000.00.

“That our client  was assaulted and held hostage while some of the above mentioned persons and the other boys dismantled the equipments, scattered the chairs and declared that the event will not hold and can never hold.

“We were informed that all the boys were armed with a Jack knife except the one with a small pistol and they tied a black scarf around their heads, with bottled of beer in their hands and were smoking what looked like Indian hemp”.

Okongwu, in a telephone conversation with one of our correspondents said the suspects after being arrested solicited for  settlement.

“After some of the suspects in the above petition were arrested and granted bail, a date was fixed for interview and on the date of interview the suspects pleaded for settlement and the police gave us two weeks to settle and before the two weeks elapsed the suspects wrote a counter petition to zone 13 ukpo Anambra State and when I was informed by the police from Anti cult Enugwu ukwu who arrested the suspects, I wrote a petition to the inspector general of police on the 12th October 2021 and the petition was approved on the 5th November 2021 and assigned to the inspector general of police annex office at Enugu to investigate the matter and the police at the inspector general of police annex office at Enugu during the cause of their investigation arrested some suspects and later granted them bail and a date was fixed for interview and on the said date for interview the suspects jumped bail and refused to come for the interview.

“The next thing the suspects did was to engage the service of one DSP Charles Nwatu  of zone 13 ukpo Anambra State who started arresting the witnesses that made statements to the police at the Anti cult Enugwu ukwu and at the inspector general of police annex office at Enugu.

“The people they arrested are the village vigilante security operatives working under the Adazi-Enu community and the Anambra State Government with government ID cards and certificate of verification.
“They were arrested on the 15/12/2021 and kept in police custody until the Officer Solomon Gotan from the F.I.B Abuja who was invited by DSP Charles Nwatu came and took the suspects to Abuja on the 24/12/2021 and they have been in police custody since then till date and every effort made by us for the police to grant them bail proved abortive.

“SP Solomon Gotan is saying that the DIG instructed that the suspects will not be granted bail. The names of the people in police custody is Ifeanyi Okonkwo and Paulinus Ezenwaka.

Meanwhile a retired D.I.G Azubuike Udah, had on  1st December, 2021 written to the D.I.G Force Headquaters,  Area 10 Abuja, describing the village vigilante security operatives as unknown gun men.

Reacting to the petition Okongwu said; “The petition which was written by retired D.I.G Azubuike Udah on behalf of a non existing Enugwu Adazi community was instigated by one chief Lawrence Arinze who has been parading himself about as a traditional ruler which he is not.

“Chief Lawrence Arinze who is an imposter has been misleading a lot of people that he is a traditional ruler while he is a fake traditional ruler.

“Sometime in September 2020, Retired D.I.G  Azubuike Udah wrote a similar petition on behalf of the said chief Lawrence Arinze to the IRT headed by Abba kayri against this same Ifeanyi Okonkwo, Paulinus Ezenwaka and others that they are kidnappers and that the came to kidnap chief Lawrence Arinze in his house while he was absent and the police from the IRT arrested Ifeanyi Okonkwo, Chidiebere Nome, Ekene Eziuzo And Ebere Onyenna and they were detained in police custody for over 10 days and when chief Lawrence Arinze was invited by DCP Abba kayri to come and prove his allegations he ran away and ifeanyi okonkwo, Ekene Eziuzo, Ebere onyenna and chidiebere Nome were released on bail.

“Chief Lawrence Arinze went to the high court Nnewi to file a fundamental rights action in suit No NN/108/2020 Against Ifeanyi Okonkwo, Chidiebere Nome, Ekene Eziuzo, Ebere Onyenna, Paulinus Ezenwaka And others for attempting to kidnap him in his absence and the court after hearing the case, sometime in January 2021 dismissed the suit on the ground that  Lawrence Arinze has no proof to show that the said ifeanyi okonkwo, paulinus Ezenwaka, Ekene Eziuzo, Ebere onyenna and other he sued were kidnappers.

Okongwu further alleged that Chief Lawrence Arinze has continuously used the office of the F.I.B to effect the arrest and detention of members of Enugwu village Adazi-Enu, Who did not recognized him as a traditional ruler.

“The said chief Lawrence Arinze ought to be arrested for giving false information to the police and for impersonating himself as a traditional ruler.

“Chief Lawrence Arinze is using the influence of Rtd DIG Azubuike Udah to always write a petition to the office of the F.I.B Abuja in order to influence the police to effect the arrest and detention of the members of Enugwu village Adazi-Enu without regards to their constitutional rights not to be detained for more than 2 days.

“The allegations against them are bailable offence but the police have refused to grant bail because they are only doing the bidding of the Rtd DIG Azubuike Udah and chief Lawrence Arinze who are motivating the police officers at the F.I.B,” Okongwu alleged

“Two of our village security operatives who are working under the Anambra State Government as security operatives in compliance with the community policing initiated by the Anambra State Government with the inspector general of police, have been in police custody since 15/12/2021, following the said petition by the retired DIG, Udah

“In the petition written by retired D.I.G Azubuike Udah on behalf of a non existing Enugwu Adazi community  and Address to the D.I.G F.I.B Area 10 Abuja he described the village vigilante security operatives as known gun men.

“Solomon Gotan who came to Anambra State from Abuja to take the two persons arrested by DSP Charles Nwatu  was duly informed through a signal by the FCID annex office Enugu that the incident upon which he came for to investigate has already been investigated by the FCID annex office Enugu based on the directives of the Inspector general of police but inspite of that information Solomon Gotan ignored the signal and went ahead to take the two persons to Abuja.

DSP Charles Nwatu who has earlier been served a signal by the FCID annex office Enugu to hand their case file and the two person he arrested ignored the signal and chose to hand over the case file to Solomon Gotan from the F.I.B Abuja in gross disregard and disrespect to the esteem office of the Inspector general of police,” Okongwu added.
