A lawyer, Douglas Ogbankwa Esq., has cried out to President Bola Tinubu over alleged assault, illegal detention and threats to his life by operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) in Edo State.

In a statement, Ogbankwa said he was slapped, bundled into an underground cell and subjected to beatings after a confrontation with the SSS Director of Operations and Intelligence at the Edo Command.
Ogbankwa explained he had visited the SSS office with a client but opposed attempts to interrogate his client alone without his presence as counsel.
He said the SSS director assaulted, detained him unlawfully and threatened to kill him after he insisted lawyers are not kindergarten pupils to be pushed around.
The human rights lawyer said he was dragged on the floor, slapped over seven times and blows by SSS operatives who boasted of being “President Boys.”
Ogbankwa added that one operative threatened to gun him down if he returns to the SSS office over the incident.
He expressed fears for his life and called on President Tinubu to urgently intervene and save him from further attacks.
Ogbankwa also revealed he has applied for CCTV footage to prove the violations against him by the SSS personnel in Edo State.
The lawyer wants the new administration to call SSS operatives to order and ensure respect for citizens’ rights.
Ogbankwa, who is the Director of Strategic Communications at the African Bar Association, vowed to legally pursue justice over the alleged assault on him by security agents.
