Members of the Nigerian Law School Class of 2002 reunited in Port Harcourt for an evening of celebration, recognising the accomplishments of their set and honouring the Nigerian Bar Association President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN.

The gathering also celebrated Mrs Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, whose emergence as the first elected female President of the NBA further established the Class of 2002’s place in the leadership history of the Association.
Welcoming members and guests at about 8:06 p.m., Tonye Pepple said the reunion was organised principally to celebrate Badejo-Okusanya, a member of the set, following her historic election.
Pepple described the Class of 2002 as a “survival set,” recalling the experiences its members shared at the Nigerian Law School and their professional development over more than two decades at the Bar.
Members subsequently introduced themselves, identifying the Law School campuses they attended and their present states of residence. The introductions provided an opportunity for old colleagues to reconnect, reminisce and celebrate their collective journey in the legal profession.
Badejo-Okusanya attended the event with an entourage that included Oludayo Femi and Ada Udobi, a former Vice-Chairman of the NBA Onitsha Branch, among others.
One of the major highlights of the evening was a toast proposed by former NBA Lagos Branch Chairman, Chuka Ikwuazom, SAN, who expressed pride in belonging to the Class of 2002.
Ikwuazom thanked God for what he described as a historic moment for the set and the wider legal profession, noting that the class had made history by producing the first woman to be elected President of the NBA.
He congratulated Badejo-Okusanya on her emergence and urged her to deliver the “dividends of democracy” to members of the Bar when she assumes office.
Expressing confidence in her capacity to lead the Association successfully, Ikwuazom wished her a productive tenure before proposing a toast to wisdom, good health and prosperity.
The celebration also featured the ceremonial cutting of a cake by the president-elect, surrounded by members of the class and other colleagues.
Beyond the speeches and tributes, the reunion celebrated friendships formed more than two decades ago at the Nigerian Law School, with members recognising their collective professional and personal accomplishments.
As the evening drew to a close, members expressed confidence in the incoming NBA administration and optimism that the Class of 2002 would continue making meaningful contributions to the Association and the legal profession.
