Obeagu Awkunanaw, a community in Enugu state, has petitioned a Judge of the state High Court, over alleged misconduct in the handling of cases relating to the lingering land dispute between it and a firm, Private Estates International West Africa Limited (PEIWA).

The High Court Judge petitioned by the community is Justice Afamu Nwobodo.
Awkunanaw and Amechi communities have engaged the firm in a legal battle over alleged land grabbing measuring 1097 hectares.
In the petition, the community frowned at the way Justice Nwobodo is going about the issue and have accused him of issuing exparte orders against them to assist the private firm, in a manner that has eroded their confidence in him to continue with the matter.
The petition dated August 10, 2020 and addressed to the Chairman, National Judicial Council (NJC), which is jointly signed by HRH. Igwe Mike A. Nnukwu and Chief Andy C. Egbo reads, “we write as parties and representatives of Obeagu Awkunanaw Community in certain Suits that are currently pending before Honorable Justice A.A. Nwobodo, over our Community lands measuring 1097 hectares of land and which lands form part of our ancestral home cum farm lands.
“We therefore use this medium to appeal to the Chairman of the National Judicial Council to prevail on Justice A. A. Nwobodo from using his office as a Judge, as a willing instrument to assist the Proprietors of Private Estates International West Africa Limited, in their bid to dispossess us of our ancestral homes and farm lands.”
