The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has arraigned popular online influencer Suraj Oyewale, widely known as #SirJarus, for allegedly assaulting his wife. The agency announced that Oyewale had been arrested and was in police custody before being charged to court on Thursday.

According to the DSVA, Oyewale was arraigned before the Ogba Magistrate Court 5 on two counts: assault against his wife and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. The agency had previously reported on June 28 that an allegation of abuse involving Oyewale had been referred for investigation.

In a series of now-deleted tweets, Oyewale had addressed the incident, alleging that his wife engaged in fetish practices and provocative behavior, which he claimed led to a physical altercation. However, the DSVA maintained that domestic violence in any form is unacceptable, and the Lagos State government maintains a zero-tolerance stance against it.

Head of Public Affairs Unit at DSVA, Adejoke Ladenegan-Oginni, stated, “As the Statutory Agency in Lagos State dedicated to preventing and responding to domestic and sexual violence, we take this very seriously. We have, as an agency, referred this to the Commissioner of Police (Gender Desk Department) to ensure that investigation commences.”

The case has sparked outrage on social media, particularly on X.com (formerly known as Twitter), where users have expressed a wide range of opinions on the matter. The DSVA’s actions demonstrate the Lagos State government’s commitment to addressing domestic violence and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
