The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 23-year-old Nigerian Law School student, Faith Alayande, who was found dead within the institution’s hostel premises in Victoria Island, Lagos, after reportedly falling from the rooftop of a four-storey building.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, August 7, 2026, with police saying preliminary information indicated that the student may have jumped from the hostel rooftop.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that the matter was reported to the police by the institution’s matron after the student was found unresponsive within the hostel premises.

According to Adebisi, another student and a relative reportedly discovered a note written by Alayande and subsequently began searching for her.

She said the student had reportedly jumped from the rooftop before they were able to locate her.

“I can confirm the incident. The deceased reportedly wrote a suicide note and, before her hostel mate and a relative could locate her, she jumped from the rooftop of a four-storey building,” Adebisi said.

“The matron of the hostel reported the incident, prompting police operatives to visit the scene. Her body has been evacuated to a morgue for preservation.”

Security analyst Zagazola Makama also reported that the deceased, identified as Alayande Faith Ajoke, was discovered within the Nigerian Law School hostel premises in the early hours of Friday.

According to his account, another student discovered her and alerted the institution’s matron.

Makama said the Chief Matron of the Nigerian Law School, Mrs Igbokwe Juliana, subsequently reported the incident at the Victoria Island Police Division at about 6:30 a.m.

“A 23-year-old student of the Nigerian Law School has died in a suspected suicide incident at the school’s hostel in Victoria Island, Lagos,” he stated.

“The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, August 7, 2026, when the deceased, identified as Alayande Faith Ajoke, was found dead within the hostel premises.”

He added that preliminary observations indicated that the student might have jumped from the rooftop of the four-storey hostel building.

Police operatives subsequently visited the scene, while the body was evacuated to a morgue for preservation.

The Lagos State Police Command said an investigation had commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding Alayande’s death.

The incident comes months after another Nigerian Law School student, Ayomiposi Ojajuni, was reported to have died in a suspected suicide in December 2025.

Ojajuni, a graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University and a student at the Nigerian Law School’s Yola campus in Adamawa State, was reportedly found dead after he was allegedly prevented from sitting for the Bar Final examinations.

Reports at the time said he had received a series of queries from the school authorities before discovering that he would not be allowed to participate in the professional examinations.

The circumstances surrounding Alayande’s death, however, remain under police investigation.
