The family of E.J. Alex Kehinde Taylor has urged the Lagos State government to honor a Consent Judgment delivered in December 2019, affirming their ownership of a parcel of land located at Plots 412-420 along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Abule Egba.

At a press conference held yesterday, the family’s legal representative, Olalekan Ojo, Managing Partner at Platinum and Taylor Hill LP, called on the state government to either pay the legally mandated compensation or return the property to its rightful owners.

Ojo described the land as a historic family legacy acquired in 1912 by Rt. Rev. Bishop James Johnson and later conveyed to E.J. Alex Taylor. He emphasized that the property has been carefully managed and preserved for over a century, contributing to economic and community development.

Despite the Consent Judgment delivered by Justice O.A. Ogala in December 2019, which recognized the Taylor family as the lawful owners, the Lagos State government has allegedly failed to comply with the ruling. Instead, Ojo accused the government of engaging in arbitrary revocation, prolonged litigation, and bureaucratic delays.

He further highlighted the family’s continued compliance with legal obligations, including payment of tenement rates, insurance, and property maintenance. However, the property has reportedly suffered vandalism and neglect, with armed factions disrupting activities and destroying infrastructure.

Ojo warned that the ongoing encroachment and harassment not only undermine the family’s rights but also erode public trust in governance and the judiciary. He called on the Lagos State government to uphold the rule of law, respect property rights, and bring a swift resolution to the longstanding dispute.
