The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police has arrested a yet-to-be-identified dog owner after three dogs belonging to him allegedly mauled a security guard to death.

The tragic incident, reported to have occurred on Monday night at Pinnock Estate in the Lekki area of Lagos State, has continued to stir reactions on social media.

In a video shared by an X user, @itzbasito, three dogs belonging to the unidentified man were seen surrounding the lifeless body of the security guard.

Captioning the video, he wrote, “Pinnock Estate last night: A resident didn’t properly lock in his dogs, dogs escaped and ma*led an Estate Security man to d3ath.”

Reacting to the development, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Lagos State, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that the dog owner has now been arrested and is currently in police custody.

While responding to a tweet by @Ade_yinkar, who claimed that nothing would be done to the dog owner over the incident, Hundeyin tweeted, “The dog owner has been arrested and is in our custody.”

The PPRO also posted a section of the Nigerian constitution which describes omitting to take precautions against any probable danger from an animal in one’s possession as a reckless and negligent act.

He, however, disclosed that investigations are currently ongoing to unravel more details about the tragic incident.
