A fake female lawyer by the name Benedicta Ebele Edeh, was arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Ejigbo Lagos for an alleged conduct likely to cause breach of peace and impersonation contrary to Section 168 (d) and Section 77 (b) of the law of Lagos State Nigeria, 2015, respectively.

The 45-years-old who was charged with a two-count charges bothering on conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and impersonation, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charges and was admitted to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

According to the terms of the bail given by the Court, one of the sureties must have a duly registered property and deposit same with the c/o to the Lagos State government while the second surety must be a Level 16 officer of the state ministry and to deposit his letter of employment with the court. The sureties must also show evidence of 3 years tax payment and their addresses to be verified by the police.

According to the information available to TheNigerialawyer (TNL), the said lady approached the Isheri-Oshun Police Station, asking for the release of her client, Ekene Gilbert, who was arrested by the Police on the 13th January, 2020, over what could be described as dangerous driving and driving against traffic laws.

The-45-years old appeared before the DPO ranting to be a certified lawyer called to the bar. However, it was discovered by the police that she was only a secondary certificate holder, and not a lawyer called to the Nigerian bar as she had claimed.

The Matter was subsequently adjourned to the 19th day of February, 2020. Asp Kenneth Asibo appeared for the prosecutor. Olushola Coker appeared as counsel for the defendant while Basil Owolabi Esq., and O. A. Henry Esq., held watching brief for the NBA Ikeja and Ota branches respectively.
