Two former national officers of the Nigerian Bar Association, Kunle Edun, SAN, and John Aikpokpo-Martins, have declared support for Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, in the 2026 NBA presidential election.

Edun, a former National Publicity Secretary of the NBA from 2018 to 2020 and former National Welfare Secretary from 2020 to 2022, joined Aikpokpo-Martins, a former NBA 1st Vice President from 2020 to 2022, in calling on lawyers to vote for Badejo-Okusanya in the election scheduled for July 18, 2026.

In a joint statement, the former NBA officers said their experience in national leadership placed them in a position to understand the weight, demands and structure of the office of NBA President.

They said that having served close to the leadership of the Association, they were familiar with what the office requires and were therefore offering an informed view on who, among the three candidates, is best suited to lead the NBA from 2026 to 2028.

According to them, campaigns are often filled with grand rhetoric, promises and slogans, but effective leadership at the national level requires more than noise.

They said what matters most is vision, patience, empathy, sincerity and the ability to work collaboratively across divides.

They added that the next NBA President must be able to use the two-year tenure to deliver tangible welfare for members, strengthen the Association’s voice on the rule of law and protect the rights of Nigerians.

“Two years is too short to do everything. Yet it is long enough to leave a legacy — if the right hands are on the wheel,” they said.

Edun and Aikpokpo-Martins said the legal profession is at a defining moment, adding that the Bar must respond to changing realities rather than remain tied to old methods.

They stated that the world is changing rapidly and that the NBA cannot afford to be left behind.

They described Badejo-Okusanya as the candidate they believe is equipped to lead the Association into what they called a new and positive reality.

“We are persuaded that there is no candidate better equipped to turn the wheel of time and boldly lead us into this new and positive reality than Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN,” they said.

The former NBA officers urged lawyers across the country to vote for her “without fear” on July 18, 2026.

They concluded with the campaign message: “Let’s boldly make history together” and “We are boldly bold.”

The statement adds to the growing list of public declarations of support by senior lawyers and former NBA officers as the Association prepares for its national election.
