The Kano State government has set up an Independent Judicial Commission of Inquiry to probe killings and destruction’s arising from the nationwide protests that turned violent in the state.

The spokesperson to Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State, Sanusi Bature who announced this while addressing newsmen, said members that made up the inquiry commission will soon be announced.

Sanusi however solicited for the cooperation of the residents by providing meaningful information to aid the work of the commission.

According to him, “in consideration of numerous call by well meaning Nigerians including the International Community, Human Rights organization, Civil Society Organizations, Traditional and Religious leaders, the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf heeded to the call and decided to establish an independent judicial commission of inquiry to probe the killings and destructions of properties in the state with immediate effect.

“We urged the good people of Kano State to support this decision by providing meaningful information to the commission, which will be announced as soon as possible,” he said.

Sanusi said the state government has arraigned over 600 suspected hoodlums who disrupted a peaceful protest in the state, leading to vandalism of public and private properties, as well as the maiming, injuring, and killing of innocent citizens in Kano State.

“Prosecution of over 600 suspected hoodlums who were sponsored to disrupt the peaceful protest in Kano started today.

“We are all aware of the recent unfortunate incident where some hoodlums disrupted a peaceful protest in Kano, leading to vandalism of public and private properties, as well as the maiming, injuring, and killing of innocent citizens in Kano State.

“His Excellency regrets the unfortunate inconvenience caused by some unpatriotic politicians who are determined to create chaos in the state for their selfish interests.

“The governor wishes to state clearly that anyone found undermining the peace and stability of the state will be dealt with appropriately in accordance with the law.

“While the government continues to monitor the situation closely, it is important to note that normalcy is gradually returning to Kano.

“However, we will not take anything for granted, as the government remains proactive on matters related to the security of lives and properties of its citizens,” he said.

Recall that the protest turned violent in the state when suspected hoodlums hijacked the protest leading to loss of lives and properties and that which compelled the government to declared 24-hours curfew.

Meanwhile, despite the relaxation of the curfew by six hours daily (8am to 2pm), banks, markets and offices were still closed.
