The chairman, NBA Kano, barrister Ibrahim Mukthar said that legal practitioners in the state are worried over the rampant cases of rape, noting that cases regarding the defilement of women calls for concern and measures. According to him, adopting measures that would tame the ugly trend is of urgent need, adding that, the campaign to fight against the unwanted development is the responsibility of all Kano residents. “Recently there is a case of a six months old baby girl, who was raped, we are worried” Mukthar said. He cautioned that, practicing lawyers in the state, who engage in violating the ethics regulating legal practice would not be spared. Mukthar, addressing exco members of Nigeria Association of Crime and Judicial Journalists, Kano state, who paid a courtesy visit to NBA Kano secretariat, last weekend confirmed that, Naziru Kafinga a Kano based lawyer has been disrobed as a lawyer, for allegedly being involved in the act of misappropriation of monies belonging to a client. He lamented that, there are lawyers who have resorted to the useage of the press to preempt court judgment, stating that, these group of lawyers are notorious in taking undue advantage of freedom of expression to allegedly incur public sympathy over matters that are pending before the court of law. He disclosed that, NBA Kano is committed to the fight against corrupt practices in the justice sector, urging aggrieved persons to come forward with complaint against judicial officers no matter how highly placed. “ we will deal with such complaint diligently” he said. “We have good judges, magistrates, and shariah court judges, we have some few rotten eggs, NBA Kano has zero tolerance for corruption, people should come forward with genuine complaint against any alleged corrupt judicial official, and we will address such complaint appropriately,”, NBA Kano boss said. In his remarks the chairman, Nigeria Association of Crime and Judicial Journalists,NACCAJ Kano state chapter, Abdulgafar Oladimeji said the motive of the visit to NBA Kano is to seek for an avenue to smooth crime reporting in the state. ” On assuming office as the newly elected exco, we thought it wise to visit the umbrella body of Kano lawyers, for solidarity purposes, though we do not have the tradition of filling litigation against media organizations in this part of the country, but we need to work together, for the lawyers to understand how we work and for us to also to have access to legal opinion without malice, when conducting our practice, ” Abdulgafar Oladimeji said .]]>
