The Dumebi Kachikwu-led faction of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has dissolved the Senator David Mark-led National Working Committee and adopted Kachikwu as its sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

The decision was taken on Sunday at the faction’s national convention and presidential primary held at A-Class, Abuja, where delegates endorsed Kachikwu through a voice vote.

The Electoral Committee Chairman and Benue State party chairman, Elias Adikwu, announced Kachikwu’s adoption, which was subsequently ratified by delegates at the convention.

The newly elected National Chairman of the faction, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mohammed Bashir, later presented the party’s flag to Kachikwu as a symbol of his mandate to lead the party into the 2027 presidential election.

The convention also produced a new set of national officers to replace the dissolved David Mark-led NWC.

The new executives include Kingsley Oggah as Chairman of the Board of Trustees; Abdulkadir Mohammed Bashir as National Chairman; Johnny Tovie Derek as Deputy National Chairman; Kennedy O. Odion as National Secretary; Dr. Joe Aroh as National Treasurer; Chief Amirigoye as National Financial Secretary; and Dr. Chris Ugwu as National Legal Adviser.

Others are Elias Adikwu as National Organising Secretary and Patrick Ambut as National Chief Whip.

Speaking after receiving the party’s flag, Kachikwu said Nigeria was at a critical crossroads, citing insecurity, unemployment, economic hardship and deepening national divisions as major challenges facing the country.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us and must not be controlled by a few privileged interests,” he said.

He also noted that the mass exit of middle-class Nigerians from the country was a sign of widespread frustration with the current state of affairs.

Kachikwu said the ADC faction would position itself as a credible alternative capable of restoring hope to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 elections.

Earlier, Oggah described the convention as a “defining moment” for the faction, saying members had remained resilient despite internal disputes and challenges.

The newly elected National Chairman, Abdulkadir Bashir, urged members to uphold the party’s constitution and avoid actions capable of worsening internal divisions.

He also appealed to aggrieved members to return and work with the new leadership to strengthen the party ahead of future elections.

The development comes weeks after the rival Senator David Mark-led ADC held its own national convention in Abuja on April 14, 2026.

At that convention, delegates amended the party’s constitution and elected the former Senate President as substantive National Chairman despite internal disputes, litigation and venue controversies.

The Mark-led faction also reportedly expelled factional chairman Nafiu Bala, alongside Rep. Leke Abejide and others, over alleged anti-party activities and for taking internal disputes to court.

The rival convention attracted major political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as part of a broader coalition effort aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027.
