The President of the Institute Chief Emeka J.P. Obegolu, FICMC, FCIArb made this known on Tuesday, the 13th of November, when he led a delegation from the Institute to pay a courtesy visit to Hon. Justice Zainab Adamu Bulkachuwa, OFR, CFR. According to the president “The purpose of the visit was to convey the resolution of the Governing Council of the Institute to confer the rank of Fellowship of the Institute on the Honourable Justice and brief Her Lordship on the 2018 ADR Conference and Induction ceremony of the Institute.” Chief Emeka Obegolu placed on record the Institute’s commendation of the untiring efforts of the President of the Court of Appeal in promoting the use of Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution in the resolution of disputes within the Court. He commended Hon. Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa on the establishment of the Court of Appeal Mediation Centre, commissioned in June, 2018 by Hon. Justice Walter Onnoghen, the Chief Justice of Nigeria. “The Mediation Centre will offer counsel and litigants before the Court the opportunity to explore Mediation as the means for resolving their appeals before the Court, as provided in Order 16 of the Court of Appeal Rules, 2016. “The Institute is desirous of partnering with the Court of Appeal to promote the Mediation Centre, and in that light offered free Mediation Skills Accreditation and Certification Training for the staff of the Centre, Chief Obegolu stated. Hon. Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, while expressing her deep interest in Mediation, thanked ICMC for the visit and stated the Court would be willing to partner with the Institute to train the staff of the Mediation Centre. Hon. Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, in her remarks, accepted to Chair the Institute’s 2018 ADR Conference themed “The Mediation Dilemmas in Complex Emergencies: 2019 General Elections in Perspective”, scheduled to hold 3rd December, 2018 at the Abuja International Conference Centre, FCT Abuja. She thanked the Institute for honouring her with the rank of fellowship and stated that she looks forward to receive training proposals from the institute in line with National Judicial Institute accreditation.]]>
