Justice Simon Amobeda, a Federal High Court judge, has failed to comply with a judicial transfer order to Kogi State nearly three months after receiving the directive from the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Hon. Justice John T. Tsoho.

Despite being posted to Kogi in July 2024, Justice Amobeda has remained in Kano, where he previously served. The nationwide posting directive, issued by Justice Tsoho on July 12, 2024, mandated all reassigned judges to report to their new divisions.

Sources within the judiciary have expressed concern to saharareporters over Justice Amobeda’s non-compliance, particularly in light of recent controversial judgments he has delivered while still in Kano.

On October 22, just four days before the Kano Local Government Area elections, Justice Amobeda dismissed Prof. Sani Malumfashi as the Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, citing his alleged membership in a political party.

Furthermore, on Friday, October 25, Justice Amobeda issued a ruling annulling the victories of all 44 chairmanship and councillorship candidates from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the Kano local government elections held on Saturday, October 26.

The reasons behind Justice Amobeda’s refusal to comply with the transfer order remain unclear, and it is uncertain whether the Federal High Court’s leadership will consider disciplinary actions.

In June, Justice Amobeda ruled on the case of the deposed Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, affirming his right to freedom of movement and civil liberties and ordering the Kano State Government to pay him N10 million in damages.

As the situation unfolds, the judiciary and the public await further developments regarding Justice Amobeda’s non-compliance with the transfer order and the potential implications for the administration of justice in Kano and Kogi states.
