Honourable Justice Joel Filibus Agya has been sworn in as the new Chief Judge of Taraba State today, January 8th, 2024.

Justice Agya, aged 63, took the oath of office, marking the start of his tenure as the top judge in the state.

Born on November 22, 1960 in Wukari LGA of Taraba, he attended Ebenezer Primary School and St. Paul Catholic Secondary School for his basic education. He earned a Bachelor of Laws degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and was called to bar in 1984 after attending the Nigerian Law School in Lagos.

Justice Agya began his career at the Ministry of Justice in former Gongola State as a State Counsel. In 1990, he started his own prominent law firm J.F Agya and Co where he worked until 2002 when he was appointed a High Court Judge in Taraba.

The new Chief Judge brings over two decades of experience serving in the state’s judiciary. He takes over leadership of the judiciary from the outgone Chief Judge, Justice Filibus Andetur.

Senior lawyers and judges across Taraba attended the swearing-in ceremony today and welcomed Justice Agya’s appointment as Chief Judge.
