Leading Nigerian law firm J-K Gadzama LLP recently held its 9th Annual Hon. Justice Oputa Professional Training and Mentoring Programme for Young Lawyers from November 22-24, 2024 at the J-K Gadzama Court in Abuja.

The event, chaired by Hon. Justice Eleojo Enenche, JCA, focused on the theme “Guardians of Innovation: The Power of Intellectual Property and Unlocking Innovations within the Law.”

In a thought-provoking keynote address, Dr. Fadila Abubakar Sodangi, Head of Private & Islamic Law at Nile University, emphasized the critical role lawyers play in safeguarding and advancing innovation through intellectual property law. “Lawyers not only protect the fruits of innovation but also drive its proliferation by establishing the legal certainty necessary for research, investment, and development to thrive,” she asserted.

The three-day training equipped young lawyers with the tools to navigate the complex intersection of law and emerging technologies. Renowned legal luminaries, including Asiwaju Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, Chairman of the Body of Benchers, and Chief Mela Audu Nunghe, SAN, President of the Nigerian Law Society, were in attendance to share their expertise.

In his welcome remarks, the host and Principal Partner of J-K Gadzama LLP, Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama, SAN, paid tribute to the event’s namesake, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, and underscored the firm’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of legal guardians. “You and your chosen noble profession are the guardians of innovation,” he declared to the young lawyers.

The newsletter also shared recent firm news, including:
