Former Minister of Transportation and African Democratic Congress vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has challenged anyone accusing him of corruption to produce evidence, insisting that he has stayed away from corrupt practices throughout his years in public office.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Amaechi defended his record and questioned why those seeking to establish wrongdoing against him had found it difficult to arrest him.

“I am waiting for the person that will prove that I am corrupt.

“Have you asked why they are finding it difficult to arrest me? And I’ve been in politics since 1987,” he said.

The former Rivers State governor recalled that he had previously been asked about corruption during another interview and had denied involvement.

“I have said it several times. The other time Maupe was interviewing me and she asked, ‘are you corrupt?’ and I said no and I am waiting for the person that will prove that I am corrupt. I will say it again and again, I will not near corruption, I will not get close to corruption.”

His defence came during a broader assessment of governance under President Bola Tinubu and former President Muhammadu Buhari, whose administration he served as transportation minister.

Amaechi alleged that corruption under the current administration was more conspicuous than under Buhari, while also challenging the government’s record on completed infrastructure projects.

He maintained that his own conduct in office should be assessed on evidence, reiterating his readiness for anyone to substantiate allegations of corruption against him.

Amaechi governed Rivers State from 2007 to 2015 before serving as Minister of Transportation under Buhari. He is now the ADC vice-presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.
