A former chairman of the defunct Skye Bank Plc, Tunde Ayeni, remained in detention on Tuesday as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission finalised charges against him over alleged financial crimes.

A source within the commission, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Ayeni was still in custody six days after his arrest.

“He is still in our facility. We are drafting our charges. He might likely be taken to court from here,” the source said.

The EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, could not be reached for comment as calls to his line indicated that it was not reachable.

Recall that Ayeni was arrested in Abuja last Thursday by EFCC operatives over money laundering, misappropriation, and diversion of funds allegations.

The anti-graft agency had disclosed that Ayeni, a businessman and former board chairman of Skye Bank Plc, was being probed for his role in the alleged diversion of the funds.

“Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a former board chairman of defunct Skye Bank Plc and businessman, Tunde Ayeni, in connection with alleged money laundering, misappropriation and diversion of funds” the source said.
