Isaac Bristol, the man charged by the National Cybercrime Centre (NCCC) of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for allegedly being the controversial leak journalist known as “PIDOM”, has denied the accusations against him.

In a written police statement dated August 14, Bristol asserted through his lawyer Henry Peter Ekine that he does not “know any name called PIDOM NIGERIA” and has no association or connection with the name. He also denied knowing “TRUTHFULLY83” or being involved with the Twitter account “99% OPPRESSED”.

Bristol admitted to using “Zico mentor” to register a WhatsApp account with the phone number 090904******.

On Monday, Bristol was charged in the Federal High Court, Abuja on a nine-count charge, including:

– Mobilizing and soliciting support to “unduly compel” the government to act or abstain from certain acts through the #EndBadGovernance protest
– Making false money-laundering allegations against President Bola Tinubu
– Unlawfully obtaining, retaining and disseminating classified secret documents in contravention of the official Secret Act 1962

Bristol cited “his inability to see clearly” as the reason he delegated the statement writing task to his lawyer.

On Tuesday, Justice Emeka Nwite, the presiding judge, denied Bristol bail during his arraignment.

The case has garnered significant attention due to the mysterious identity of “PIDOM”, who has been leaking sensitive government information. The police believe Bristol to be the man behind the pseudonym, but he maintains his innocence. The trial is set to continue as more evidence is presented.
