Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has responded to Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, following the governor’s remarks mocking Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke over his fondness for dancing.

Davido, who has been openly supporting his uncle ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election, shared what appeared to be Okpebholo’s West African Examinations Council result on his Instagram Story on Friday.

The singer did not attach any caption to the post, leaving followers to interpret the move as a response to the Edo governor’s recent comments about Adeleke. The post has drawn wide attention online and has been read as a direct riposte.

Davido has repeatedly defended his uncle in the build-up to the poll. He has taken part in campaign rallies for the governor and recently appealed for a peaceful, free and fair election in Osun State.

The dancing question was also addressed on the campaign trail, where the response was put plainly: “We are talking about 2,500. 2,500 is dance. Is there any problem with dancing?”

The speaker went on to thank the electorate: “I’m happy that we Osun people have stood with us and have stood firm. Not only because of Adeleke, but because this government has been doing a good job. All the projects we promised, we’ve been delivering.”

An appeal was also directed at the President over the conduct of the poll. “All we ask from Mr. President. Mr. President, I came to see you first again in Abuja, and you promised me that you would give us a free and fair election.”

The exchange followed Okpebholo’s appearance on Thursday at an All Progressives Congress campaign rally in support of the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as “Ambo.” Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, was also in attendance.

The Edo governor repeatedly ridiculed Adeleke’s dancing, claiming it reflected poor leadership and distracted him from governance.

“Before somebody signs paper, he will dance. Are you not tired? For four years, this man has been dancing. Before he takes breakfast, before he drinks tea, he will dance,” Okpebholo told supporters.

Okpebholo further linked the Osun governor to former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, saying both should be rejected by voters.

“That man is Obaseki’s friend. You know we kicked Obaseki out of Edo. So we have to kick his friend out of this place too. A lot of people ‘chopped’ Obaseki’s money, but they never voted for him,” he said.

Addressing allegations that the Accord Party was distributing money to voters ahead of the election, Okpebholo advised supporters to take the cash but vote for the APC candidate instead.

“If they bring money, ‘chop’ that money from them, but don’t vote for them. They said they have money to spend, is that not so? Just collect the money, keep it in your pocket,” he said.

Campaigning for Oyebamiji, the governor described the APC candidate as the leader Osun needed and promised better infrastructure if he is elected.

He also criticised the condition of roads in the state. “The road I was passing, my tyre was shaking. I said, is it the dancing road or the dancing governor’s road?” he said.

He closed by putting a question to the crowd. “Osun, are we ready to make a change? Are we ready to say bye-bye to dancing?” he asked, to cheers from supporters.
