Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced its decision to cease utilizing sit-at-home protests as a means of civil disobedience in its pursuit of self-determination. Simultaneously, Simon Ekpa, leader of a Finland-based separatist group, has sounded an alarm about the deteriorating health of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of IPOB.

In an official statement on Saturday, Emma Powerful, the Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, affirmed the organization’s commitment to refraining from invoking sit-at-home actions for the purpose of demanding self-determination.

As part of this transition, IPOB encourages Biafrans to engage in distributing flyers and posters throughout Biafraland, symbolizing the end of the “senseless Monday sit-at-home.”

The statement clarifies: “This is to inform Biafrans about the flyers and posters being distributed all over Biafraland conveying our leader’s famous pronouncement canceling Monday sit-at-home and to inform the good people of Biafrans that the sit-at-home is not only dead but will never again be invoked or deployed as a tool of civil disobedience in our quest for self-determination.”

The statement firmly asserts that any discussions or endorsements of a nonexistent sit-at-home within Biafraland will be considered acts against the people’s interests and dealt with accordingly.

The authorized distribution of these materials was enacted upon the direction of Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu Kanu, IPOB’s leader. The statement emphasizes that Nnamdi Kanu has unequivocally ended the practice of Monday sit-at-home in Biafraland, and any attempts to enforce it will result in apprehension and immediate action against the perpetrators.

The statement further distances IPOB from a group referring to itself as the “social media Biafra Government in Exile (BGIE),” categorizing these claims as fraudulent. IPOB maintains that it has never established nor will it establish any form of government in exile.

In addition, IPOB disassociates itself from individuals claiming leadership without demonstrating a commitment to street protests or international engagement. This includes those associated with a Finland-based group known as “Autopilot.”

IPOB’s statement declares: “People that never led a protest anywhere in the world, were never detained, or held meetings with any international bodies can never claim to represent our people. Such a person is a charlatan, petty criminal, and a monumental fraud. Whoever is foolish enough to associate with such a fraudulent social media scam called Government in Exile (Autopilot) is doing so at his or her own risk and must not link Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB to it.”

Moreover, Simon Ekpa has expressed grave concerns about Nnamdi Kanu’s health, emphasizing that he is in critical condition while detained by Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS). Ekpa, a self-proclaimed disciple of Kanu, took to Twitter to voice the urgency of the situation, warning that Kanu’s health is rapidly deteriorating.

Ekpa’s tweet stated: “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is very sick and may die in DSS if nothing is done or not released soon. I wish to inform Biafrans that Onyendu is very sick right now. He is in the worst state ever. If MNK dies in DSS, let them know that none of those involved in this crime will be free.”

As IPOB undergoes a strategic shift and concerns about Nnamdi Kanu’s health arise, the pro-Biafra movement remains a focal point both nationally and internationally.
