On the International Day of Education, A Senior Advocate of Nigeria Afam Osigwe has called for urgent reforms in Nigeria’s legal education system.

In a statement, Osigwe said that while appreciating current efforts, stakeholders must collaborate to inject new vigor into legal training.

Advocating for curriculum updates, Osigwe stressed integrating modern subjects like intellectual property, data privacy, and maritime law as an “academic necessity.” He explained this will equip students with practical skills for Nigeria’s unique legal climate and emerging opportunities.

The SAN also urged enhancing vocational aspects at the Nigerian Law School to sharpen graduates’ practical abilities before entering the legal profession. He envisioned the institution transforming into a true crucible that bridges the gap between theory and legal practice demands.

Overall, Osigwe’s statement highlighted the pivotal role of dynamic education in national development. He said passionate collective efforts are needed to shape legal training that produces professionals ready to champion justice and progress in Nigeria’s context. The message ties aptly into the International Day of Education’s theme of reforming systems to be responsive and effective.
