The Independent National Electoral Commission has restored four previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states in compliance with court judgments directing their restoration.

The affected constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II in Delta State, as well as Yagba West II in Kogi State.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday.

According to Haruna, the Commission resolved to restore the constituencies following judgments of the courts directing that they be reinstated for electoral purposes.

INEC has consequently fixed August 21 to 25, 2026, for political parties wishing to participate in elections into the restored constituencies to conduct their primaries.

The period will coincide with the timetable already fixed for party primaries ahead of a number of scheduled by-elections across the country.

Haruna said the same August 21–25 window would apply to primaries for the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State; Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies of Bauchi State; Udu State Constituency of Delta State; and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency of Kano State.

Elections to fill vacancies in those constituencies have been scheduled for September 19, 2026.

“This coincides with the period for the conduct of primaries for bye-elections to fill recent vacancies into Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State, Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies of Bauchi State, Udu State Constituency of Delta State, and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency of Kano State. Elections into these constituencies have been fixed for 19th September, 2026,” Haruna said.

INEC further stated that the timelines and activities contained in its already published revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election would apply to the four restored constituencies.

The Commission therefore directed political parties intending to participate in the elections to submit notices of their primaries to INEC ahead of the scheduled dates.

The restoration means voters in Abraka, Isoko North II, Ughelli South II and Yagba West II will again have separate representation in their respective State Houses of Assembly in accordance with the court judgments.
