The Independent National Electoral Commission has extended by three days the deadline for political parties to submit the lists of their candidates for the 2027 governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.

The Commission said the deadline, earlier fixed for Saturday, August 8, 2026, has now been shifted to Tuesday, August 11, 2026, following appeals by political parties for additional time to complete the submission process.

INEC disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.

According to the Commission, political parties are expected to upload the lists of their candidates through the dedicated portal within the extended period.

The development came as INEC also announced the suspension of Permanent Voter Card collection in Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The Commission said voters who applied for the replacement of lost, damaged or defaced PVCs have until midnight on Sunday, August 9, to print downloadable copies of their cards.

INEC explained that the deadline would enable it to compile data on downloaded PVCs and determine the final statistics of cards collected ahead of the election.

PVC collection in Osun State had earlier commenced at the Registration Area level from July 22 to 28, but was extended to July 31 following complaints about large crowds and difficulties encountered by voters at collection centres.

The exercise later moved to the local government level from August 1 to 7.

INEC also disclosed that replacement downloadable PVCs had been made available to voters in Odo-Otin and Ife Central Local Government Areas, following the invasion of two collection centres by hoodlums who carted away voters’ cards.

The Commission, however, assured affected voters that the stolen PVCs cannot be used to vote.

With the Osun governorship election only days away, INEC reiterated its readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible and inclusive election in the state on August 15.
