The Nigeria Police Force on Monday reportedly arraigned Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, and his brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, before a Magistrate Court in Kuje, Abuja, on allegations of criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, and breach of public peace.

The arraignment, which was said to have taken place under tight secrecy, followed the arrest of the duo alongside several others on Monday, October 20, 2025, during a Free Nnamdi Kanu protest in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) obtained from the police, Ejimakor — whose name was allegedly recorded as “Aliyu Ejimakor” — and eleven other defendants were accused of “inciting disturbance and breach of public peace in disobedience to a court order, denying other citizens the freedom of movement, and disrupting the free flow of traffic while chanting war songs and calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.”

The FIR, dated October 21, 2025, stated that the accused persons were arrested “at different locations within the FCT” and that their activities “threatened national security.”

They were charged under Sections 152, 114, and 113 of the Penal Code, which respectively relate to criminal conspiracy, disobedience of a public order, and disturbance of public peace.

Another FIR sighted by this newspaper indicated that one Chima Onuchukwu, from Ebonyi State, was separately arrested near Gate 8 of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, “while carrying placards written ‘Free Nnamdi Kanu’ and chanting war songs.”

The police claimed his actions also amounted to “inciting disturbance and breach of public peace in disobedience to a lawful order.”

It was unclear whether Ejimakor, Prince Kanu, and the others were granted bail at the time of filing this report. The police are yet to issue an official statement on the arraignment.

Meanwhile, lawyers and rights advocates have expressed outrage over the development, describing the charges as “specious” and the process as a violation of due process, especially given the alleged misidentification of Ejimakor as “Aliyu.”

Ejimakor, a counsel for the detained IPOB leader, has consistently represented Nnamdi Kanu in several legal proceedings and has been vocal about alleged human rights violations against his client.
