The Initiative Against Human Right Abuse & Torture (INAHURAT), a human rights organization based in Abuja, has filed a petition to the Inspector General of Police on behalf of their member, Mr. Chibuike M. Opara, a lawyer and human rights activist.

The petition alleges that Mr. Opara has been subjected to threats, cyber bullying, criminal intimidation, and harassment by Mr. Jesam Michael Ubi.

According to the petition, the complainant, Mr. Opara, had previously written to the Attorney General of the Federation, requesting an investigation into alleged violations of Nigerian citizens’ rights by the suspect, Mr. Ubi. In response to this petition, the suspect allegedly published pictures of Mr. Opara on various social media platforms, accompanied by threats that Mr. Opara would “never go free” for writing the formal petition against him.

INAHURAT’s petition states that several individuals who saw and read the threatening publication against Mr. Opara have been calling and advising him to go into hiding to avoid being attacked, kidnapped, or assassinated by the suspect. As a result, Mr. Opara and his family members have been living in fear for their safety.

The human rights organization has urgently requested the Inspector General of Police to order a thorough investigation into the matter to prevent the suspect, Mr. Jesam Michael Ubi, from carrying out any harmful actions against the complainant and his family. The organization emphasizes the need for swift action to ensure that Mr. Opara and his family can live freely without fear of being targeted by the suspect.

The petition has been addressed to the attention of the CP X-Squad at the Force Headquarters in Garki, FCT Abuja.
