The Nigerian Bar Association has applied to the Corporate Affairs Commission for amendments to the Association’s Constitution.

The Association which is incorporated under the Corporate Affairs Commission informed the general public of the application in a public notice cited by TheNigeriaLawyer.

According to the public notice signed by the NBA President, Olumide Akpata and General Secretary, Joyce Oduah, FICMC, the sections proposed to be amended include Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 4(3), 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 9(3)(e), 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 14(1)(j)(k)(l)(m), 15, 16, 16(4), 17, 17(2), 18, 19, 20, 20(2)(b), 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29.

Others include First Schedule (Standing Orders), Second Schedule (Parts I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X) Third Schedule (Parts I, First and Second Schedule to the Bye Law, Part II). Fourth Schedule, Fifth Schedule, Sixth Schedule, Seventh Schedule, Eight Schedule And Commencement of the NBA Constitution, 2015 (as amended in 2019).

The notice further notes that Schedules 1 and 6 as well as Second Schedule (Part X) Fourth Schedule and Seventh Schedule remain unchanged.

The NBA-NEC notes that the amendments are made pursuant to resolutions duly adopted and passed by the Annual General Meeting of the NBA held on the 29th day of October, 2021 at Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Elekahia, Port Harcourt which in effect repeals the NBA Constitution, 2015 (as amended in 2019).

The notice further stipulates that objections to the amendments should be forwarded to the Registrar General, Corporate Affairs Commission, Maitama, Abuja within 28 days of the publication of the notice.
