Former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has expressed pride in the achievements recorded during his tenure, citing improvements in key economic indicators under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement issued shortly after his exit from office, Edun thanked President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve in multiple capacities since May 2023, including as head of the Presidential Transition Committee, Special Adviser on Monetary Policy, and later as Minister of Finance.

He described his time in office as a privilege, noting that he contributed to the implementation of the administration’s economic agenda during a critical period in Nigeria’s economic history.

According to him, the government inherited difficult economic conditions but was able to stabilise the macroeconomic environment through coordinated reforms.

Edun stated that the reforms led to measurable improvements, including an increase in economic growth from 2 percent to over 4 percent, as well as a reduction in inflation from 35 percent to 15 percent.

He attributed these outcomes to collective efforts across government institutions, including the Federal Executive Council, state governors, and partners in both the public and private sectors.

“These outcomes were driven by a shared commitment to restoring public trust and enabling faster and inclusive growth through greater investor confidence and improved economic coordination,” he said.

The former minister also expressed appreciation to stakeholders, both within Nigeria and internationally, for their support and collaboration throughout his time in office.

While acknowledging that more work remains to be done, Edun maintained that the country is on a clear path toward sustained economic growth.

“The direction is clear and the foundations are firmly in place,” he said, expressing optimism about Nigeria’s economic trajectory.

He wished his successor well and reaffirmed his commitment to continue supporting the administration’s efforts to improve the lives of Nigerians.

Edun’s remarks come amid recent changes in the federal cabinet, marking the end of his tenure as one of the key drivers of the administration’s economic policies.
