The leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has said that a second term for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would mark the end of opposition politics in Nigeria, in a video circulated on his social media platforms.

In the recording, the cleric addresses the opposition parties directly, warns that the window available to them is closing, and raises questions both about the President’s health and about whether a second term would be completed.

“If Tinubu wins a second time, he will show you pepper, all of the opposition,” the cleric said. “They will not hear any opposition in Nigeria again. That’s the end of opposition. The victory of Tinubu is the end of opposition in the next election.”
Addressing the presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi by name, he said: “Obi, it’s all about time. It’s all about time. This I want to say, I stand by it, as God reveals. And as the Lord says, I have not said anything yet.”
He returned to the point later in the recording, saying that no volume of argument would alter the position. “Let them bring one billion of facts all together. It’s all about time.”
The cleric suggested that a second term might not run its course, invoking the precedent of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who died in office in 2010.
“What happened to Yar’Adua? Or whatever that will make him not to finish it, that will lead to an emergency, another government. That will make a team, a man, to take over from him, might happen,” he said.
He said he would stand by the statement. “I stand by the word. If it doesn’t happen, if people complete that second term, let anything happen. I’m telling you. But you may not see it now.”
He then turned to the question of health: “Face your health. Your health is not good for a second time. Don’t take my word. Don’t take it. That’s why it’s going to be bitter for the opposition party.”
No basis for the assertion about the President’s health was offered in the recording.
The cleric warned the opposition of the consequences of the coming contest.
“If this victory as it is now, you let APC claim it, then you are in trouble. All of you are in trouble. I repeat again.”
He invited viewers to disregard him, while urging them to preserve the recording.

The cleric said those around him do not share his foresight.

“I am seen as a prophet. Believe me, don’t believe me. Find this video. Comment on the video. Save the video. Take the video. The word will come to pass, though, except if it’s not from God.”
He said he had made similar efforts before without being heeded. “I’ve tried several. People surrounding them don’t want to hear the truth. They don’t want to hear people like us.”
He added, of those he was addressing: “They are only fighting for what they will eat.”
The recording closes with the cleric repeating an appeal not to dismiss him out of hand.
