Activist Aisha Yesufu has weighed in on the ongoing rift between the Falana family and social critic Very Dark Man (VDM), stating that if revered lawyer Femi Falana and his son, rapper Falz, allow the issue to slide, it may be perceived as an admission of guilt.

The controversy began when VDM released an audio recording allegedly featuring a conversation between crossdresser Bobrisky and an unidentified man. In the recording, Bobrisky claimed that Falz reached out to him, saying his father, Femi Falana, could help secure a presidential pardon for a fee of 10 million naira.

Both Femi Falana and Falz have denied the allegations and demanded an immediate retraction and apology from VDM within 24 hours. However, VDM refused to apologize, stating that he only brought the audio recording to light to prompt relevant agencies to investigate the allegations.

Reacting to the issue on X (formerly Twitter), Aisha Yesufu expressed her astonishment at the public’s perception of the matter. She wrote, “If the Falanas let this go unchallenged, the same people will say that they are guilty of what they are accused of. Now they are taking it up, they say it is oppression.”

Yesufu emphasized that the Falanas have the right to clear their names, and those who feel the focus should be on corruption rather than defamation cases should understand that both issues can be addressed simultaneously. She stated, “If the guy in the video has evidence to the accusations, then he goes to court; otherwise, tender the apologies and let everyone move on.”

The activist also criticized those who believe the Falanas should let the matter go, saying, “Because many do not care about their reputation, they feel others shouldn’t. You want to tarnish a family’s hard-earned name, and you think they should let it go. What nonsense is that!”

Yesufu concluded by asserting that the corruption case can proceed alongside the defamation case, underscoring the importance of addressing both issues concurrently.
