A former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has confirmed that he was invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) in connection with the recent attack on his convoy in Kebbi State.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Monday, Malami said the invitation was tied to the incident which occurred on September 1, 2025.

“I can confirm that I have been invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) to support investigation into the attack on my person and convoy in Kebbi State on the 1st of September, 2025,” he said.

Malami alleged that the petition which prompted his invitation was instigated by “opposition high-profile political elements” in the state. He, however, expressed confidence in the DSS and commended the agency for the way it has handled the inquiry.

“I must commend the DSS for the professional and transparent manner in which they have conducted their inquiry. I was treated with dignity and respect, and I remain committed to cooperating fully with the Department to ensure that their investigation is concluded successfully,” he stated.

The former minister recalled that he had earlier petitioned the DSS over alleged threats to his life and what he described as orchestrated attempts by political opponents to smear his reputation.

The September 1 attack on Malami’s convoy has since heightened political tensions in Kebbi, with his supporters accusing rival political camps of masterminding the incident, while opposition figures have dismissed the allegations as unfounded.

As of press time, the DSS has not issued an official statement on the progress of its investigation.
