In a deeply emotional video that has gone viral, the mother of popular TikToker Baba Alado has pleaded with Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho to forgive her son, describing him as “a child who made a mistake” and urging the activist to show mercy.

The woman, visibly in tears, revealed that she single-handedly raised Baba Alado through bricklaying work and that his father is now aged and frail.

“He has only you. Please forgive him. I raised him through bricklaying. His father is aged. I beg you in the name of God,” she told Igboho in the video.

The dramatic family appeal comes days after Baba Alado and his fellow TikToker colleague, Funny Thinker, publicly criticised Igboho over his strong endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.

The conflict erupted when a video of Sunday Igboho circulated widely in which he declared his full support for Tinubu’s re-election, warning that opposition figures Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar would not be welcome in Yoruba-speaking states.

Speaking emphatically, Igboho said: “For second term. Beyond 2027, 100 percent. Do not bring Aiku or Obi here. After eight years, we will beg God for Baba to use extra two years. If you think you are confident bring Obi or Atiku here.”

The remarks drew swift backlash from Baba Alado and Funny Thinker, who are well-known TikTok creators famous for their Yoruba-language comedy skits that often depict everyday life in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The two TikTokers described Igboho’s statement as “unconstitutional.”

Funny Thinker stressed that no single individual has the right to dictate Nigeria’s political landscape, pointing out that the Constitution guarantees every citizen the freedom to campaign anywhere in the country.

Shortly after their criticism went public, a purported voice note allegedly from Sunday Igboho began circulating online.

In the audio, Igboho is heard instructing a man named Adebas to bring both comedians to his house in Ibadan, with an implicit threat.

“Adebas, Alado and Funny Thinker must be brought to my house in Ibadan. If not, I do not know what can happen,” Igboho reportedly said.

The alleged threat triggered immediate reactions from both TikTokers.

Funny Thinker took to social media to insist he had done nothing wrong beyond correcting Igboho’s remarks.

Baba Alado also posted a video on TikTok rejecting any form of intimidation.

“I did not offend you. That voice note is a threat,” Baba Alado said.

“Whatever is happening now must be brought to the public. I do not expect this from you. I have a wife and a child. I have urged the person that offended you to beg you, and he did so.”

However, in a subsequent video, Baba Alado appeared to soften his position and issued a public apology to Igboho. He pleaded with the activist to view him as a son who had acted out of fear following the voice note.

The apology was followed by the tearful intervention from Baba Alado’s mother, who directly addressed Igboho and asked him to forgive her son, claiming he was misled by Funny Thinker.

“He has only you. Please forgive him. I raised him through bricklaying. His father is aged. I beg you in the name of God,” she pleaded.

According to TheNigeriaLawyer, if Sunday Igboho really said, “If not, I do not know what can happen,” in the context of bringing the TikTokers to his house, that can raise threat/intimidation issues under Nigerian criminal law, depending on the exact wording, context, and proof.

A statement does not have to name a specific injury to be problematic; what matters is whether a reasonable person would understand it as a threat or as conduct meant to intimidate.

At the same time, Baba Alado and Funny Thinker’s criticism of Igboho’s political remarks falls within the broad protection of freedom of expression under Section 39 of the Constitution, so long as they did not cross into defamation, hate speech, or incitement.

In Nigeria, political commentary is generally protected, especially where the speakers are reacting to a public figure’s public endorsement and claims about who should campaign in a region.

If the voice note is authentic, investigators could look at offences such as criminal intimidation, threats, harassment, or conspiracy under the Criminal Code or the Penal Code depending on the state and the facts.

If anyone used the threat to coerce the comedians into deleting posts, apologising, or submitting to a private meeting, that could also strengthen the intimidation analysis.

A public political dispute is one thing; a message that appears to summon people to a private house “or else” is another.

Courts and police usually look at:

  • The exact words used
  • Whether the speaker had the apparent power to carry out the threat
  • Whether the recipient reasonably felt unsafe
  • Whether there is corroborating evidence such as the audio, metadata, screenshots, and witnesses

The legal issue is not that Igboho was criticised, because criticism of a political stance is ordinarily lawful.

The issue is whether the alleged voice note amounts to a criminal threat or intimidation, and whether the apology videos were produced because the recipients genuinely feared escalation.

The incident has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians weighing in on the tension between freedom of expression and the influence of political activists in the build-up to the 2027 elections.

As of Sunday, March 29, 2026, neither Sunday Igboho nor his representatives have issued an official response to the mother’s plea or the public apologies.
