Dare-devil gunmen suspected to be cultists went wild on Friday night, February 6, 2026, in Ogidi, home town of legendary novelist Chinua Achebe located in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. By the time they were done, the town’s President General, Sir Ikwuka Okoye Anumili, and another victim whose identity could not be immediately established, lay dead.

Announcing the tragic development on a WhatsApp group shortly after midnight, a prominent Ogidi son lamented: “Duly elected and recognised by Anambra Government and Ogidi as a whole the head of all Ogidi both Nigeria and worldwide. Shot dead by cultists in Ogidi on Friday evening, February 6, 2026.”

Another one, writing on Facebook, said: “Chief Ikwuka Okoye, A.k.A Anumiri. The current President General Of Ogidi Town Union has been Murdered by Men Of The Underworld This Evening. This is very Sad indeed.”

According to Naija Confra (@naijaconfra), Chief Ikwuka Okoye and the other male victim were killed by Aye (NBM) cultists.

It linked their killing to the recent death of Emma Amasco, “an NBM hit squad leader who died after being arrested by local security operatives.”

Naija Confra explained that “Chief Ikwuka Okoye was not a cultist, but NBM accused him and some local security personnel of involvement in Emma’s arrest and death, threatening revenge on them. Contrary to rumours, Emma Amasco’s death had no connection to Vikings (DNKI) and was purely the result of action taken by local security against a known serial killer.”

Emma was reportedly arrested on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, “while stealing at a complex, after already stealing phones worth over ₦5 million,” Naija Confra said.

It added that, “Before his death, he was asked how many people he had killed, and he said 46, even mentioning names. He claimed that all his NBM gang members were dead except one named Gattuso, who he said was seriously ill with kidney problems and swollen body, keeping him indoors. When asked how many people he killed in Ogidi, Emma said ‘only 17.’ 17 deaths to Emma was ‘only’ 17. It was after this, he was shot in the leg. He was not shot dead on the spot but on the leg and later succumbed to his injuries.”

Armed men suspected to be members of Neo-Black Movement cult, popularly known as Aye, on Friday evening went on rampage in Ogidi community of Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The cultists who attacked the community injured many indigenes, while also killing the President General of the community, Chief Ikwuka Okoye and one other unidentified person.

The attack has been linked to the killing of a known member of the Aye cult, popularly known as Emma Amasco, whose age was given as 25 years old.

Amasco, a cultist and petty robber, was said to have operated all through Monday and Tuesday in Onitsha, robbing unsuspecting persons of their phones.

On Wednesday, he reportedly took over 18 phones and laptops to Sir Emeka Offor Plaza in Onitsha to sell them off, before he was apprehended.

He was later brought back to Ogidi on the request of the traditional ruler and the now deceased President General, who had insisted on expelling cultism and violent crimes in the town.

On interrogation, he was said to have confessed to having killed a total of 48 people since he began operation. He was said to have also named some prominent people in the community whose killing he participated in.

He, however, died in circumstances that were not so clear, leading his members to vow revenge on the community.

Chief Ikwuka, who has been described as a popular leader in the town was on Friday evening felled by the men. Details of how he was killed have not been made known as of the time of this report.

Meanwhile, police authorities in Anambra have confirmed his killing, vowing to go after the killers.

The Anambra State Police Command in a press release by its spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, commiserated with the community, reiterating the link between the murder of the President General and the recent capture and killing of a known notorious cultist within the community, Emma Amasco.

The release said: “Following the report, police operatives swiftly took over the scene of the incident and commenced investigations. The Command is currently working with eyewitness accounts and other available intelligence to identify and arrest the perpetrators.

“The Anambra State Police Command assures members of the public that all efforts are being intensified to bring those responsible to justice. Residents are urged to remain calm and cooperate with the police as investigations continue.”
