“Silent night, holy night! All is calm, and all is bright, Round yon virgin, mother and child, Holy infant so tender and mild, sleep in heavenly peace”, yes oh, it’s Christmas season once again and carols are already in the air to celebrate the moment, as we prepare to go for the end of the year holidays to spend time with family and loved ones.

The Christmas holiday often presents an opportunity for yearly assessment of one’s achievements and failures, a time to look back at what the year has offered and whether one has progressed, being stagnant or retrogressed. Whatever the situation of the year might be, my advice to anyone reading this piece right now is to be thankful to the Almighty, for considering us lucky to still be in the land of the living to even contemplate whether the year was good or bad, for we are not special than those who lost their lives this same year, yet we are still breathing and so we need to be THANKFUL and celebrate the moment.

I saw a meme recently saying the country is so hard that the bells are not jingling this season as they used to be, another one said that ‘Naija wahala don kidnap the merry in Merry Christmas’, and the likes. It is true that the level of insecurity and economic hardship has somehow dampened the fun and excitement of the Christmas season, people no longer feel secure travelling our roads back to the villages as used to be norm, not all fathers can afford a bag of rice and gallon of Groundnut oil, even the price of chicken is no longer within the reach of the poor, and yet, we are still alive to celebrate the holidays with friends, family and loved ones.

It is in the spirit of celebration of life, that I want to greet everyone who has supported ‘Know Ur Right with Barrister Monkey Jacket’ specially, I greet all of una from the bottom of my heart, from my publishers ‘The Nigerian Lawyer’, to the readers, followers and then to those who actually put in the effort to share my articles to their contact, my year won’t be a success without you all, and am eternally grateful.

We no go tire to dey talk about the fundamental human rights of Nigerians irrespective of whose ox is gored, and I also hope you don’t get tired of reading, sharing and making contributions towards the growth of this project, for you are the fuel that keeps this vehicle moving, and it gladdens me to see that we are going somewhere. I know it is not easy to read a lengthy article from me week in, week out and that’s why I extend my heartfelt appreciation to everyone, you all have ensured that there is Merry for me this Christmas, and am grateful.

To those who see my articles and ignore for one reason or the other, I greet you too, we understand that not everyone will be interested in what we talk about, however, we would to include everyone in our discussion, so please feel free to send in topics of discuss you will like to read about, and we will work on it, we all are in the same boat called Nigeria together, and so, we all must join hands and voices together to bring about the change we desire for our great country.

Though the times be hard, and though the pockets are empty, it is a great thing to be alive and well to celebrate the yuletide, and so I wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS season, and a prosperous new year.

God Speed and God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
