The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in the August 15, 2026 Osun State election, Adebayo Adedamola, has disowned a petition reportedly filed in his name challenging the victory of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Adedamola said neither he nor his counsel authorised or filed any petition before the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, insisting that he had no reason to challenge Adeleke’s election after publicly backing the governor before the poll and ultimately voting for him.

His denial followed the display of petitions at the tribunal in Osogbo on Monday, including one marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, which was reportedly filed in Adedamola’s name against Adeleke, the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Accord Party.

Speaking during an interview with TVC on Monday, Adedamola said he was unaware of the petition and had never instructed his lawyers to institute any post-election proceedings.

“There’s no petition filed by me or my counsel. So, I don’t know where they manufactured the petition they submitted at the tribunal,” he said.

The PDP candidate added that he had received no communication from his lawyer or the leadership of the party indicating that a decision had been taken to challenge the outcome of the governorship election.

He also said no meeting had been convened at which such a legal challenge was authorised.

“There has never been any meeting where a decision has been reached to challenge the decision of the court,” he said.

Adedamola further questioned why a petition challenging Adeleke’s victory would be attributed to him when his political position ahead of the election had been openly declared.

According to him, the PDP held a press conference on August 13, two days before the governorship election, at which the party publicly declared support for Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party.

Adedamola said he personally followed through on that position by voting for Adeleke on election day.

“I even voted for Governor Adeleke of the Accord party. Why would I now change today and be filing any petition against him?” he asked.

His denial has added another layer of controversy to the post-election litigation surrounding the Osun governorship poll, particularly over the authenticity and authorisation of petitions reportedly filed before the tribunal.

The development comes amid a separate denial by the legal team of the All Progressives Congress, which has also disputed reports that it filed a petition challenging Adeleke’s victory.

Adedamola’s position, however, is that any petition before the tribunal bearing his name was neither authorised by him nor filed on his instructions, leaving questions over who initiated the case and under what authority.
