A Lagos based lawyer, had recounted his #Igbophobia story on his Facebook timeline, on Monday, 10th April, According to him, on examining the igbophibia debate, whether it was a reality or a ruse? He shared his pathetic experience at the University of Abuja.

“I got admission to study law at the University of Abuja more than 20 years ago. My name was on the list of students admitted on merit. We were about to start registration and then all of a sudden, names of Southerners including mine were removed in a new list published by the school. The vice chancellor of the University of Abuja then was Dr Laraba Gambo, a lady. I heard she later became a professor”.

“Nobody told us the reason for the strange removal of our names from the merit list. Some of us that were affected went to see the school officers who told us to go back to our states and that we cannot be admitted because we are not within “catchment”. I scored 243 in JAMB; the cut-off mark for law was 200 for non-northerners and 180 for Northerners. I felt frustrated with life”

He further stated how, after the ugly episode of ethnic discrimination he told his mother he would not be going to school again. However, she encouraged him not too:

“My mom agreed with me but begged me to write another JAMB if not for anything, for her sake. I wrote JAMB again and chose a university in my home state, stayed at home for another one year. Result came out, I scored 266. Got another merit admission but now attended the university in my home state”

In the picture he shared on the post, his mother was seen visiting him on campus after he got the new admission .
