The House of Representatives, on Thursday, passed the ₦54.99 trillion 2025 Appropriation Bill, marking a significant step in the budgetary process for the upcoming financial year.

The approved figure reflects a N700 billion increase from the initial proposal of ₦54.2 trillion, which was revised upward by President Bola Tinubu following improved revenue projections from key government agencies.

The budget breakdown includes:

  • ₦3.6 trillion for statutory transfers
  • ₦14.3 trillion for debt servicing
  • ₦13.6 trillion for recurrent (non-debt) expenditure
  • ₦23.9 trillion for capital expenditure

The passage of the bill followed the presentation of the report by the House Committee on Appropriations, chaired by Hon. Abubakar Bichi (APC, Kano). In his presentation, Hon. Bichi stated, “The House has considered the report of the Committee on Appropriations for the Bill of an Act to authorize the issuance of the total sum of ₦54.99 trillion from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation. This includes ₦3.6 trillion for statutory transfers, ₦14.3 trillion for debt service, ₦13.6 trillion for recurrent (non-debt) expenditure, and ₦23.9 trillion for the Development Fund for capital expenditure for the year ending December 31, 2025.”
