*Calls For Investigation.

The immediate past Chairman of Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Hon. Ogbonnia Oko Enyim , has accused Governor David Umahi and former PPD National Vice Chairman, Southeast, Austin Umahi, of breach of public trust, fraudulent conversion of monies meant for the 13 local government areas in ebonyi state, massive embezzlement of public funds and stealing.
This was disclosed in a letter written by Hon. Ogbonnia’s lawyer law firm “Dynamic Option Chambers,” addressed to the Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), dated 19th May, 2021 and sighted by TheNigerialawyer.
The former chairman alleged that the Gov. Umahi, forcefully and fraudulently took the sum of Twenty Million Naira(N20,000,000.00) monthly, from the allocation due to each of the 13 Local Government Areas in Ebonyi State, from the Federal Government of Nigeria. And the funds were transferred into an account tagged “Ebonyi State Government LGA Joint Projects Fund Account”, domiciled with United Bank for Africa(UBA), with account number 101*9**2*4.
The letter also stated that for over 7 years and counting now, the total sum of Twenty One Billion, Eight Hundred and Forty Million, Naira (N21,840,000,000.00), have so far been collected by David Umahi, through the said Ebonyi State Government LGA Joint Projects Fund Account, for which no single joint projected has been executed in conjunction with any of the 13 Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State.
“These monies were directly transferred to the said project joint account upon the receipt of monthly allocations, by each of the 13 Local Government Areas in Ebonyi State. The Twenty Million Naira (N20,000,000.00) collected from Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, by David Umahi, was transferred on monthly basis, from the following accounts of the Local Government;
1. UBA-100*272*81
2. Eco Bank- 539*07*55*
3. Zenith Bank-1011*187*9
“These monies amounting to Billions of Naira, collected from the 13 Local Government Areas in Ebonyi State, since the inception of the administration of David Umahi as the Governor of Ebonyi State, have been fraudulently converted for the personal use of David Umuahi and members of his family. The monies were used in acquiring properties in choice locations in Nigeria and around the world and building hotels some of which are located in Ebonyi State.
“It is further our client’s instructions, that the said David Umahi, in a bid to further impoverish Afiko North Local Government of Ebonyi State, and indeed the entire 13 Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State, and fraudulently enrich himself and members of his family, also directed that contracts for the construction of 1km Road be awarded to Austin Umahi, his brother, using a company called CHRZL CONSULT LTD, at an over-bloated contract sum of Two Hundred Million Naira(N200,000,000.00). It is also our client’s instructions that David Umahi, forced the Afikpo North Local Government of Ebonyi State, to pay the full contract sum of Two Hundred Million Naira(N200,000,000.00) to Austine Umahi, using CHRZL CONSULT LTD, even when the road construction is not up to 50% complete. It is further our client’s instructions that the due process of law was not followed in the award of this contract, as the Local Government was forced to award the contract to the Governor’s brother and also pay him the complete contract sum, without completing the project which has since been abandoned. Documents pertaining to the various payments made to CHRZL CONSULT LTD, are herewith attached as Annexure 2, for your further information sir.”
Hon. Enyim, is urging the Chairman of EFCC to call an investigation into the alleged monumental fraud, committed against the people of Afikpo North Local Government, and the entire Ebonyi State, by Gov. David Umahi and the members of his family.
“The people of Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, and every native of Ebonyi State, are earnestly looking forward to the recovery of the Billions of Naira, meant for the development of the state, brazenly looted and fraudulently converted by David Umahi and members of his family, for their private use, by your agency, sir.
“It is finally our client’s instructions that we seek the urgent intervention and timely attention of your esteemed office, so as to assuage the feeling of the majority of the indigenes of Ebonyi State and further avert a breakdown of public peace, law and order in the state, over the massive and shameless looting of the state resources by David Umahi and members of his family,” the letter stated.
