Hill-Top Lawyers Laud Gov. Ugwuanyi’s Strides In Education, Says ‘Quintessential’ & Worthy Of Emulation

The Hill-Top Lawyers have commended Gov. Ugwuanyi’s commitment towards the educational sector in Enugu State, describing it as a “quintessence” and what is worthy to be emulated by others.

This is contained in a statement issued which was made available to TheNigeriaLawyer, titled “EDUCATION IN NIGERIA: THE UGWUANYI QUINTESSENCE”.

“The gap between developed and underdeveloped society is majorly factored by the quality of education existing therein. Education has many advantages for people of all kinds and levels: it polishes our minds, reinforces our thoughts, and strengthens our character and behaviours toward others.

The presence of proper education in any area improves on the confidence and deportment of their people in a way that not only contributes to their success and personal satisfaction, but also massively rubs off the impacts on their immediate communities, and by far, the larger society. Education, indeed, is transformative.

“However, the need to have quality education and sustenance in academic learning has often met an adverse financial challenge, because education, especially at the desired quality, appears outlying in affordability. Invariably, many individuals and homes have struggled to attain these heights due to the demanding responsibilities that come with the desire to be educated at the highest ranks.”

Hence, the stated noted that the Governor stands out in these areas .

“It is on this cognizance that His Excellency, Rt Hon. Dr Ifeanyichukwu Lawrence Ugwuanyi, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, has come off quintessential.”

In addition, the statement noted that the Governor strives to install a significant improvement in the educational sector and understands the significance of education to the growth of a nation.

“Ugwuanyi, often identified as the most compassionate leader of our time, has never been found wanting on establishing necessary foundations that aid in the overarching development of the people and the state under his watch.

“Notwithstanding his superb initiatives on and outstanding performances in the numerous departments, to mention a few: rural development, economic growth, peace and security, infrastructural development, youth and women involvement in public services, provisions of health amenities, etc, that have jointly added feasibility to the attainment of uncommon peace and the massive transformative growth of Enugu State, His Excellency equally understands that these efforts will only amount to dalliance if the direct beneficiaries, especially the younger generation, are bereft of the necessary tools to ensure sustainability and growth on the already initiated Ugwuanyi Agenda in Enugu State. Ugwuanyi understands that education is, by far, the chief of these necessary tools and has thus, utilised it to perfection.”

While alluding to some of the scholarships awarded under the leadership of Gov. Ugwuanyi, they stated as follows:

“It has become a household discussion that Ugwuanyi has spearheaded the academic growth and well-being of the people of Enugu State, ranging from free tuition in many academic institutions provided by the government of the state, to the unimaginable. Under five years in office, the records speak: Ugwuanyi has provided Scholarship for 340 indigent students of Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo; 340 indigent students of IMT, Enugu; 300 2nd year to final year indigent Enugu indigenes spread across the country. The Ugwuanyi’s administration equally ensured 22 indigent Enugu students were funded to study medical courses in India; approved the Miss Ali’s awarded scholarship having come first in WAEC exam; offered Miss Nnadi Nneoma Scholarship to university level, after adequately providing care for the recently brutalised Enugu Maid, owing to the maltreatment by her guardians; secured students of Imilike Girls secondary school scholarships; etc. This verified list is inexhaustible”.

“These nonpareil acts by this man of unmatched compassion has attracted our limitless appraisal.” It was added.

Furthermore, the stated noted that the recent bursary allowance approved for Law School students of Enugu State origin deserves commendation.

“As lawyers indegenous to Enugu State, we are, more especially, drawn to the recent approval of the release of N24. 6 million to the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board (ESSELB) for bursary allowance for the 246 students of the state origin at the Nigerian Law School, by His Excellency.”

Besides, it was noted that it is a sign that the Governor is sensitive to the plight of the people of Enugu State.

“This act of generosity not only clearly demonstrates that His Excellency understands that education is the foundation of the socio-political and economic development of any society, but has also shown that he is sensitive to the plights of the Enugu indigenes in light of the present realities occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“Prior to this time, indigeneous students of Enugu State in the Nigerian Law School had endured a long period of government neglect. The presence of government was not felt and this sad neglect had resulted in many eligible students not being able to further their education, as a result of inadequate funding. However, the bursary awarded to these 246 students has transformed visions into reality.” The statement added.

Furthermore, it was noted that the best investment is education in which the Governor is committed to.

“Being a visionary leader, His Excellency understands and appreciates that the best investment for any society is education and that an investment in education pays the best interest. He has continually reaffirmed this solemn commitment by ensuring that qualitative, efficient, affordable and comprehensive education is provided in the state.”

Meanwhile, it was stated that the action of the Governor is an inspiration for the beneficiaries to be good ambassadors of the state.

“In the light of the foregoing, we would like to register our heartfelt gratitude and sincere appreciation to our amiable Governor for his resolve to positively transform education in Enugu State through his constant hardwork, dedication and sensitivity.
Certainly, the actions of our dear Governor would ultimately inspire the beneficiaries to dream and become responsible ambassadors of our great state.”

Thus, they charged other leaders to emulate the actions of the Governor towards educational development.

“We are, therefore, eternally grateful to God for blessing us with a leader like Ugwuanyi, and further hope that the examples set by the Ugwuanyi Agenda is emulated by other authorities of similar structure in Nigeria, present or future.”
