The son of a prominent political figure in Anambra State, Mrs. Esther Chinyere, who serves as the Women Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has been murdered by suspected kidnappers.

The victim, identified as Ifesinachi Onyekere, was reportedly abducted from his residence in Ezinifite village, Okpuno, in the Awka area of the state on Saturday, July 27, 2025.

According to reports, the attackers stormed the businessman’s home, shot him in the leg, and whisked him away to an unknown location. Onyekere was the Managing Director of Fish Magnet Outlet.

Confirming the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday, July 30, the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that the victim was later found dead. His car, a navy blue Toyota Corolla, was recovered along the Ukwulu/Igbariam Road by a Joint Security Team comprising police officers and Anambra Vigilante operatives.

Ikenga said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed all tactical and intelligence units to intensify efforts in tracking down the perpetrators.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc MNIPS PhD, has directed all tactical and intelligence units to redouble their efforts in tracking down the armed men responsible for the abduction and subsequent killing of Mr. Ifesinachi Onyekere,” the statement said.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the assailants had trailed the victim before launching the violent attack. He was shot in the leg and taken away. He was later found lifeless, sparking public outrage and concern among residents.”

The Commissioner, while condemning the killing, assured that the culprits would be brought to justice, stating that the command owes it to the family and the people of Anambra to ensure justice is served.
