Former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr. Sam Amadi, and former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, have faulted President Bola Tinubu’s trip to Europe for a 10-day “working vacation,” accusing him of lacking the stamina and focus needed for effective governance.
The Presidency had announced that Tinubu departed Abuja on September 4 for his 2025 annual leave, with plans to spend the period in France and the United Kingdom before returning to Nigeria. The disclosure was contained in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
Reacting in a post on X, Amadi argued that Tinubu’s trip reflects poorly on his capacity to handle the rigors of the presidency and undermines his political future.
“The president and his team continue to make a strong case why he should not be reelected. He has no strength for the hard work required for that office now. He loves, and probably needs, a lot of rest,” Amadi wrote.
Similarly, Dalung described Tinubu as a “vacation president,” a product of what he termed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) “technical glitches” during the 2023 elections.
“This is the tragic outcome of INEC’s so-called technical glitches — a conspiracy that has produced a vacation president whose idea of a social contract with Nigerians is sheer entitlement. At a time of escalating insecurity, Tinubu chooses leisure in Europe while the nation drifts. Nigeria is on autopilot, navigating turbulence with clueless, sleeping pilots. Lord, have mercy on this country,” Dalung wrote.
