H.M. Ogunwumiju JSC Congratulates 1st Female NBA GS Hairat Aderinsola Balogun, OON As She Clocks 80

Honorable Justice of the Supreme Court, Helen Moronkeji Ogunwumiju, has congratulated a Life Bencher and first female General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mrs. Hairat Ade-Balogun on the occasion of her 80th birthday.

Ogunwumiju JSC, in a statement made available to TheNigeriaLawyer, wishes Hairat good health.

She said, “I wish our indomitable icon of the Legal profession, Hairat Aderinsola Balogun, happy birthday and many happy returns. In so many areas of achievements, warm congratulations, and best wishes as you clock 80 years of age in good health tomorrow 10/10/2021 with all your God-given senses intact. I wish you continued joy over all that belongs to you. God has been faithful to you. You are a worthy example of excellent womanhood for which we are eternally grateful to God. I wish you more of God’s grace. Enjoy your day!!”

Hairat Balogun is the Founder and Senior Partner at Libra Law. She has a distinguished legal career spanning 57 years in law practice. She was called to the English Bar at Lincoln’s Inn in 1963, appointed the first female Attorney General of Lagos State, the first female General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association; and first female Chairman of the Body of Benchers, Nigeria.

Hairat Balogun is a Life Bencher of the Body of Benchers, a former National Executive Member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), an Assessor, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Disciplinary Tribunal and Investigating Panel and was a Member of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission.

She was a Member of the Governing Council of Lagos State University, and she has been a Member of the Council of the Section on General Practice of the International Bar Association (IBA). She also served as an Observer at the International Court of Justice, the Hague Netherlands (Lockerbie trial).
She has an impressive ability to adapt to societal and legal changes both nationally and internationally and over the years her work has been recognized internationally.

A holder of the Officer of the Order of the Niger, OON (a national honor), Hairat Balogun is also a member and life member of various associations and she has authored two books.
