An Abuja-based lawyer, Sir Nkemakolam S. C. Okoro, has criticized the representation of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe in Aba South/North, Obingwa, and Ukwa Senatorial Districts, describing it as lacking meaningful impact on the people of the zone.

In a statement on Wednesday, Okoro contrasted Abaribe’s performance with that of former Abia Governor and current Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, whom he described as impactful. He further recalled the legacy of the late lawmaker, Osy Prestige, who represented Aba North/South Federal Constituency until his demise.

“I have read and seen firsthand about Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s impactful representation of his zone. I wish he could come to Aba South and North, Obingwa, and Ukwa Senatorial Districts in exchange with Senator Abaribe,” Okoro said.

According to him, communities under Abaribe’s watch continue to grapple with bad roads, dilapidated schools, and lack of electricity supply. He noted that the only transformer his community ever received was donated by the late Prestige, who, during his tenure, graded untarred roads annually, provided free public transport for students, and empowered youths.

Okoro praised Governor Alex Otti for what he described as the “first real feel of good governance in Aba,” stressing that the governor was God-sent to redeem Abia State.

While acknowledging that it may still be early to fully assess Abaribe’s successor, Okoro maintained that the senator must rise to the occasion and deliver dividends of democracy beyond election-time palliatives.

“I challenge Senator Abaribe to imitate the likes of Osy Prestige and Orji Uzor Kalu, who impacted positively and are continuously impacting the lives of their constituents through both human and infrastructural development. He need not wait till election time to start sharing solar lights or fertilizers. A stitch in time saves nine,” he added.
