Victor Giwa, counsel to suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has accused the Kogi State Government of orchestrating the move to recall the lawmaker from the Senate.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Tuesday, Giwa alleged that Charity Omole, an aide to Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, has been actively spearheading the recall efforts against Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District.

The embattled senator was suspended for six months following a dispute over seat arrangements with Senate President Godswill Akpabio. She had also accused Akpabio of sexual harassment and abuse of office.

On Monday, March 24, 2025, Omole led a group of constituents from Kogi Central to submit a petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) seeking Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recall.

However, Giwa dismissed the process as politically motivated, alleging that it was orchestrated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State to target the senator, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“The truth of the matter is that there is no way the recall process can go through except it is done fraudulently,” Giwa said, emphasizing that the recall procedure involves about 15 stages and is “tortuous and practically impossible.”

He further argued that the recall was not based on the senator’s performance but rather on her allegations against Akpabio.

“In this case, the lady that led the protest is the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Kogi State on Women and Youths. That shows this is a government-sponsored recall,” Giwa stated.

“Charity Ijese Omole is currently serving in the Kogi State Government, so it is clear that this process is not initiated by the constituents but by the government itself. That alone fundamentally invalidates the entire process.”

As of press time, the Kogi State Government has yet to respond to the allegations.
