The Kano State Government has expressed deep concern regarding a bribery alert raised by Justice Flora Ngozi Azinge, Chairperson of the Kano State National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal.

Azinge publicly disclosed that there was a concerted effort to influence a tribunal member with monetary inducement to manipulate justice in favor of a particular lawyer’s client. She voiced her distress over the unethical practices of senior lawyers in open court before the start of a session in Kano.

In response, a statement issued by Malam Baba Halilu Dantiye, the State Commissioner of Information, conveyed the government’s stance. The statement conveyed, “The Kano State Government is gravely concerned by the allegation made by Hon. Justice Flora Ngozi Azinge, Chairperson of the Kano National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, that there was an attempt to bribe a tribunal member with money, as she put it, ‘money has been flying in the Tribunal.'”

Dantiye emphasized that the government takes this matter seriously, considering there are strong indications that influential figures known for their corrupt practices are working actively to undermine the legitimately obtained mandate of the people of Kano State.

The incident is regarded as a litmus test for the current administration’s dedication to combatting corruption and upholding democratic principles. The government seeks to demonstrate its commitment by ensuring a thorough investigation into the case and the prosecution of those responsible.

Dantiye further asserted, “Anti-corruption agencies are equally expected to take prompt action, especially when such an allegation is publicly made by a respected Judge.”

The statement also acknowledged Justice Azinge’s actions as a positive affirmation that the Nigerian judiciary still holds hope and that judges with unwavering integrity continue to exist within the country.

In conclusion, the government expressed gratitude for the citizens of Kano who, with over one million votes, empowered the NNPP despite limited resources. It appreciated their readiness to safeguard their mandate through any possible means.
