*APC Asks Kano Gov To Justify N6bn Spent On Ramadan

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has complained over the manner in which the State Ramadan Feeding Programme is being implemented.

During an unannounced visit to one of the centres at Municipal Local Government Area, the governor expressed dissatisfaction with the kind of food being cooked and packaged for the people.

Alleging sabotage in the exercise, he questioned the quality and quantity of food he saw as against the one approved by the government.

Lifting a packed food in a nylon, he said, “Look at this nonsense, who gave you materials to cook? Don’t let me come back and see this repeat itself. I couldn’t sleep because of the news I have been getting about this exercise.

“We will not accept dishonesty and mismanagement of public resources. It is imperative to note that the allocated funds for this initiative are meticulously documented at each center.”

He, therefore, directed his Chief of Staff, Shehu Wada Sagagi, to take note of the development and brief him on a daily basis.

Recall that there was public outcry over the Ramadan Feeding Programme in the state. Although N6 billion was earmarked for the exercise, many complained about loopholes in the project which is meant for the holy month of Ramadan.

However, some have said the programme wasn’t necessary and that such amount could have been channeled into more impactful projects.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano on Saturday asked the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)-led government to justify how it spent N6 billion on this year’s Ramadan feeding programme.

Kano APC Chairman l Abdullahi Abbas, told Governor Abba Yusuf to explain how the money was spent.

He threw the challenge when he flagged off the distribution of palliatives to APC leaders and supporters at Dawakin Kudu.

The palliatives distributed include 10 bags of millet of 50kg per each of the 484 wards. Also distributed to APC supporters were 5,840 50kgs bags of rice, 1600 bags of millets, 2000 cartoons of spaghetti to give out to APC supporters and other people of the state.

Abbas described the programme by Yusuf as a sham, asking the State Government to show evidence that what they are providing is commensurate with what they claim to have spent on the programme.

Abbas said: “We know that the Federal Government, BUA and Dangote groups have provided palliatives, So, let them show evidence that they have spent the said amount on the feeding programme.

“The grains we are distributing to our supporters were purchased through contribution by ourselves as we don’t have a government in the State.”

It was gathered those who contributed include tDeputy Senate President Barau Jibrin; two Ministers from the State; APC National chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje and Abbas.

Other contributors, the chairman said, include: Kano APC gubernatorial candidate Dr. Nasiru Gawuna and running mate, Murtala Sule-Garo; Chief of Staff to APC National Chairman, Malam Muhammad Garba and Engr Abubakar Kabir Bichi

Garba, said the gesture was aimed at alleviating the current economic hardship in the country, especially during the ongoing Ramadan Fast.

“We felt it is necessary to support our party supporters and leaders across the 484 wards especially during this Ramadan period since we’re in a privileged position,” he said.

Garba, who represented Ganduje, said the National Chairman coordinated the idea of the palliatives, and Ganduje with Jibrin and others heavily contributed to purchase the food item.
